About Verre églomisé

To create our verre églomisé works, we apply high carat gold, silver or other metal leaf combined with polychromes, Japanese washi paper and pigments onto the reverse glass. Metal leaf is extremely thin, having been hammered to a thickness of only thousandths of a millimetre, and to achieve the mirror-like reflective finish, it is applied to the glass using a delicate gelatine glue.

Glass

We generally use low iron glass at 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 or 12mm thick, depending on the usage and how it is to be installed.

Processing such as bevels, cut outs, laminating and shaping of the glass are all available. Almost all glass that we work with is toughened which cannot be altered once it has been processed. In addition to the design being signed off, the glass specification must also be agreed prior to the production phase commencing.

It is possible for us to work on glass of up to 1200 x 3000 mm, however, once the handling weight, shipping and installation methods are taken into account, using this very large glass size is not usually considered the best way to proceed. We generally recommend large works are produced as a series of panels.

Dimensions and shapes

To ensure correct fitting, we ask you to provide CAD files or accurate templates cut from MDF or plywood. We do not accept paper templates.

If you are providing a physical template, please shape and size the board exactly as you would like the glass to fit. The templates are scanned and the glass will be cut accordingly.

For all ovals, and any shape composed of complex curves, a physical template is always required.

The inside edges of any drill holes or cut outs will not be polished and should be covered by a decorative plate or similar.

Framing and installation

Studio Peascod does not provide framing or installation, but we are happy to discuss options and liaise with joiners, metalworkers and installers.

Our products are hand made artworks created on the reverse side of glass and therefore great thought must be taken when considering the fixing methods for the panels.

Most designs must be mechanically fixed either by a frame, clips, bolts or other such physical fastener, and cannot be mounted by adhesive. Studio Peascod will not guarantee the bond between the artwork and the glass if adhesive is used when an alternative method is advised. As always, if you have any questions, please do get in touch.

Production and lead time

Generally please allow 12-16 weeks for production of your piece - from the date that the design, dimensions and templates are agreed. However as we are a small team, this will be affected by our production commitments at the time of ordering. Please enquire to find out more.
